A5

When I read about this assignment on the syllabus, I thought it would turn out very differently. I originally assumed that the Xerox project was supposed to be realistic and look like me. I was nervous about this project because I didn’t know if I would be able to find a scanner that worked correctly—I did.
However, my preconceived notions about this assignment were thrown away when we started going over examples from previous classes. Being a musician, I wanted to tie it back to music, of course. I thought about making a music note out of the images, but then decided on to create a microphone. I went with the microphone because I have been performing my music live for the past 4 years, and I have started to get very comfortable with them.
I’m very happy with the outcome of this project. I had a lot of fun including scans of my tattoos, because not everyone has them. This made my project even more unique.I also had fun playing around with creating textures with my hair and camo pants to fill in the negative spaces.

A4

Initially I had no idea what I would do for the 30x30 grid assignment. I had a couple different ideas, but didn’t think I could find enough material to actually make it work. However, once we looked at other students’ assignments from the past, I had an epiphany. I knew that I had a good amount of professional pictures of myself, for promoting my music, so I wanted to recreate a picture of me performing using some sort of colored material.
This idea of using a performance picture actually goes way back. I used to be in a rock n roll band in middle school, and my parents have a great picture of me playing guitar at a concert hung in their living room. I decided that an updated performance picture, of me rapping, would look good next to it to see the comparison of the two, and it would also double as a perfect gift.

Once I found the picture I wanted to recreate, I decided to use colored push pins as the material. Simply gridding out the picture and the poster board felt like it took forever! I had to keep redrawing the grid so that was very frustrating. The next annoying thing was the fact that I kept running out of push pins. I ended up going back to Staples to get more push pins. Between the cost of Uber back and forth, and all the materials I spent $96 on this assignment, but I am very happy with how it came out!

X2

There are many different types of art around the world. For example, paintings, drawings, sculptures, even digital art. However, after talking about this new topic of art in class, I have come to realize that this art can be a computer programmer’s best friend. This topic of art is called ASCII art. ASCII stands for American Standard Code for Information Interchange and is becoming more and more popular by the day.
What exactly is ASCII art? ASCII art is simply pictures created out of text, or symbols on the keyboard. There is actually a guide to which characters are considered appropriate to be deemed a piece of ASCII art. There are 128 available for those who are interested in participating in ASCII art. It kind of reminds me of reading, because you have to go line by line from left to right during the creation process.

When I was exploring a couple different websites, I came across an amazing picture of R2-D2 from Star Wars. This piece must have taken so many hours because the detail is phenomenal. In fact, at first glance, the piece almost looks like it could be a real picture. This is because R2-D2 pops out of the page like he is 3D. The creator did an amazing job on choosing different characters to make him pop.

Final Project

For the final project, I knew exactly what I wanted to do. As a musician, I have shot many music videos to promote my music. For this ...
